Free Needle Felting Tutorial: Create Your Own Izutsumi Cat - Step-by-Step Guide

Hello crafters! ๐ŸŒŸ Today, I'm excited to share my first and free tutorial on making an adorable Izutsumi cat ornament from Dungeon Meshi. Perfect for beginners, and detailed instructions are provided in a PDF.

Materials Needed:

  • Core wool (~10g)
  • White top wool (or merino)
  • Black top wool (or merino)
  • Thicker fiber wool or horse hair
  • Felting needle
  • Printed reference image
  • Felt sheet for backing

Steps:

Basic Skill: Separating Wool Gently tear wool with your hands; don't use scissors!

Step 1: The Base Fold ~10g core wool into a 2cm thick circle, stabbing to tighten.

Step 2: Adding White Wool (Optional) Cover core with white wool, leaving areas that will be black later. Lightly stab to combine.

Step 3: Ears Shape black wool into triangles using the reference. Stab until firm, then attach.

Step 4: Pattern Place black wool on the face, referencing the image. Use a high gauge needle for clean lines.

Step 5: Eyes Create a long strip of black wool and attach it to the face according to the reference.

Step 6: Adding Fur Fold thicker white wool and stab to the surface, ensuring the needle doesn't break.

Extra Step: The Back Cover the back with a felt sheet, sew it on, and add a pin or magnet.
